Glooscap Kennel Club How it all started...
On New Year's Day, 1979, Marjorie & Gary Ross visited with Pat & Joost Postma in Upper Burlington, Hants County, Nova Scotia, to discuss the possibility of starting a local kennel club. Three weeks later an information meeting was held in Windsor under the supervision of Flora MacKenzie, who was then C.K.C. Director for N.S. A committee was formed and immediately met to draw up a consitution. A week later the final draft was ready for presentation to the club. On February 26, 1979, our first meeting was scheduled but was canceled because of freezing rain! Finally, on March 5, 1979, we had our first meeting and elected our inaugural executive:
Founding President - Pat Postma
Vice-President - DeAnne Aston
Secretary - Marjorie Ross
Treasurer - Sylvia Kehoe
The Glooscap Kennel Club has been active in the community of Windsor and the surrounding area since the beginnning. Obedience classes, sponsoring a family at Christmas, visitation at the Senior Homes, fund raising projects, all have been part of our program right from the start. We support the 4-H program by donations of trophies, and our members help with judging classes, workshops on training, handling and grooming. The Glooscap Hot Dogs have also been an integral part of the club for many years and are in big demand to do freestyle agility entertainment shows and demos with our dogs at various community events throghout the years. We have a club newsletter called "Waggin' Tails".
The club motto is "Enjoying Our Dogs"......and that is what Glooscap is all about!
